Roblox by the numbers
132 million people a day, 31 billion hours a quarter, and the first negative bookings guidance in the company's history. Twenty-two years of the strongest evidence for our thesis and the sharpest warning attached to it.

If you want one company that proves games are eating the world, it is this one. If you want one that shows what that costs the people building inside it, it is also this one.
The history
| Date | |
|---|---|
| 23 March 2004 | Founded by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel, originally DynaBlocks, from "dynamic" and "blocks" |
| 1 September 2006 | Public launch, together with Roblox Studio |
| 2013 | Developer Exchange (DevEx) introduced: creators can convert Robux to money |
| April 2019 | 90 million users |
| 10 March 2021 | Goes public on the NYSE as RBLX, by direct listing rather than IPO |
| 2024 | 3.6 bn dollars revenue, 79.5 m average daily users, 923 m dollars paid to creators |
| Q1 2026 | 132 m daily users, 1.4 bn dollars revenue, 1.7 bn bookings |
Note the founding date. Roblox is older than the iPhone, older than YouTube, older than Facebook being open to the public. It spent its first fifteen years being dismissed as a children's toy.
The scale, in units a person can feel
Q1 2026 alone: 31 billion hours of engagement.
That is 3.5 million human years in ninety days. Or, if you prefer it uncomfortable: about 44,000 entire human lifetimes, spent inside one platform, in one quarter.
Per person it works out at 2.6 hours a day, every day, across 132 million people.
There is no television network, no film studio and no sports league on earth with that number.
The money, from three directions
What the company earns. Q1 2026 revenue of 1.4 billion dollars, up 39 percent. Bookings of 1.7 billion, up 43 percent. Free cash flow of 596 million, a 41.3 percent margin. Those are extraordinary figures.
What each player is worth. Average bookings per daily user were 12.66 dollars per quarter. That is 14 cents a day, or 5 cents an hour of attention. Roblox is not extracting much per person. It is extracting a little from an enormous number of people for an enormous number of hours.
What the creators get. Over 4 billion dollars paid out since DevEx began, roughly 1.5 billion in 2025 alone, up from 923 million the year before.
And then the distribution, which is the part that matters:
| Effective revenue share reaching the developer | about 25 percent |
| Median creator income | 1,575 dollars per year, roughly 131 a month |
| Creators earning under 100 dollars a month | about 85 percent |
| Top 1,000 creators, average | 820,000 dollars per year |
The top-thousand average sits 521 times above the median. Both numbers are true, and quoting only one of them is how you lie with real figures. Roblox pays out more to creators than any comparable platform, and the median creator earns less than a weekend job.
The turn nobody expected
Then Q2 2026 happened, and this is the actual news.
Average bookings per daily user fell 2 percent year on year. And for Q3 2026, Roblox guided to bookings of 1.576 to 1.653 billion dollars, a year-on-year decline of 14 to 18 percent.
That is the first time in the company's history it has guided to negative bookings growth.
Management gave two reasons. Monetisation pressure among younger cohorts, and deliberate changes to the content discovery algorithm, made to improve long-term retention at the cost of near-term bookings. A third headwind sits underneath: Russia banned the platform in December 2025.
Read the second reason again, because it is the interesting one. Roblox changed how players find things and it cost them money on purpose. That is a discovery problem, on the largest game platform in the world, expensive enough to show up in guidance to the stock market.
Discovery is the thing we keep saying is broken. Here it is, priced.
Where to hear it from the founder
David Baszucki did a long-form interview with David Senra in 2026:
Roblox's David Baszucki Built the Biggest Playground on Earth, on the David Senra channel.
Senra's usual territory is founder biographies, which makes him a better interviewer for this than a games press outlet: the questions are about a twenty-two year arc rather than the next feature.
What Roblox proves, and what it warns
Proves: a platform where the content is made by users, the interface is a game and the unit of consumption is a session rather than a purchase can reach 132 million people a day and hold them for two and a half hours. That is not a niche. That is the largest voluntary attention system ever built, and it is shaped like a game.
Warns: the same structure produces a payout curve where the median participant earns 131 dollars a month. Not because Roblox is unusually greedy, its 25 percent is low but its absolute payouts are the largest in the sector, but because a platform with a million creators and one discovery algorithm will always concentrate. The curve is a property of the shape, not of the company.
And now the third thing, which is new as of this quarter: the shape stops compounding at some point, and when it does, the first place it shows is monetisation per user rather than user count. Roblox still grew daily users by 34 million year on year while telling the market bookings would fall.
Growth in people, decline in money per person. Anyone building on top of a platform economy should write that sentence on the wall.

Retrieved 4 August 2026. ⚠️ One discrepancy worth stating: our own most played games piece quotes roughly 144.5 million daily users from a secondary compilation, while Roblox itself reported 132 million for Q1 2026. Where the company and a compiler disagree, believe the company. Derived figures, the human-years and the per-hour rate, are ours.
